THE EVENT
The Real Man Cycling Challenge will start and finish at ExCeL Centre in London’s Docklands. The route includes two separately timed sprint sections – one to the east and one to the west of ExCeL. Cyclists will depart the arena to the east on Royal Albert Way and will complete a timed sprint on a section of runway adjacent to London City Airport to the north of Royal Albert Dock. Cyclists return to ExCeL and turn to complete this loop a second time.
Riders will then pass through the ExCeL site heading out to the west towards Canary Wharf passing over the Lower Lea Crossing with spectacular views of the O2 Arena and the River Thames. The 34KM route enters Canary Wharf with a separate timed sprint section here as riders pass through the loop around Cabot Square and Canada Square. Riders return to ExCeL before embarking on a second lap of Canary Wharf.
INFORMATION FOR SPECTATORS
Our top tips for enjoyable spectating!
- Tell your cyclists where you'll be on the course so they can look for you as well.
- Know the course. Look over the map in advance so you know what to expect on race day. Route maps shown above.
- Know your cyclist’s start time & projected times for each leg of the event. This should give you a good idea of when they'll arrive at any point on the course.
- Allow yourself plenty of time to park. There are plenty of parking spaces in ExCeL, or you can use the DLR. Plan to arrive early.
- Be careful along the course. Don't get in the way of cyclists & if you need to cross the course, make sure you're in the clear and obey the commands of the police and course marshals.
- Have a meeting spot for after the race.
Spectators are reminded that they must respect the safety of the competitors and they are urged to always be aware of the race going on around them.
