The Real Man Cycling Challenge will be one of very few sports charity events completed mainly by men, for men, but is also open to women. The event will be held on Sunday 14th September around Canary Wharf in London with the aim of raising vital funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

2000 cyclists will take part in the event. The 34KM route will start and finish at Excel, Docklands and cyclists will follow a route based mainly around Canary Wharf.

This event has been inspired by the work of David Hillier who was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the unusually young age of 37 and told he had two years to live. Five years on, he has raised over £400,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity through bike challenges. He believes it is the exercise that is keeping him alive.

Doctors are seeing increasing numbers of young men, like me, with prostate cancer. There is so much more I want to do, from teaching my kids to ride their bikes to helping them learn to swim, I want to make sure I teach them everything a Dad should.

When you register for the Real Man Cycling Challenge you will complete an estimated time for completing the 34km course, these times are collated into groups of similar ability.  These groups are then set off in at timed intervals, fastest individuals first.  This, hopefully, will prevent cyclists being held up on the roads by slower competitors and allow everybody to set the fastest time possible.  Each competitor will have an electronic timer recording their times and then the team time will be added together as the final team member crosses the line.
